Hanging around other book people – along with all of us who enjoy related fun – is always a pleasure. And creating community is a big part of our purpose. Therefore, Dragonfly Book Bar hosts a variety of social events, classes, and other activities in-store. Upcoming events are listed below, including details of price and how to register (where applicable).

We can host your event at Dragonfly – from birthday parties, bridal showers, and book clubs, to fundraisers, wedding parties, and even weddings! If you are interested in reserving the space, please complete our Event Request Form at least four (4) weeks prior to your event.   • Author Talk & Signing: William Hill

    Saturday, August 29, 5:00-7:00pm

    Join us on Saturday, August 29, 5:00-7:00pm for an evening with William Hill, author of cult classics Dawn of the Vampire and Ruins of the Vampire, set in the area around South Holston Lake! William will be talking about these books, including his new novel Vengeance of the Vampires, his other novels, their creation, their local inspiration, and the Bristol fans' involvement!

    William Hill is a former resident of Bristol, current resident of Nevada, and the author of Dawn of the Vampire, a popular novel set locally at South Holston Lake and in surrounding Appalachia. Fans wanted more leading to a dark fantasy series, Dawn of the Vampire Revived, Ruins of the Vampire, and now, Vengeance of the Vampires.

    Join us on Saturday, September 5 as we celebrate Dragonfly’s one-year anniversary! Throughout the day we’ll have specials, sales, and surprises to mark the occasion so plan to hang out with us for the big day!

  • Crafty Afternoon

    Sunday, September 6, 2:00-5:00pm

    Every first Sunday, we invite creators of all types to hang out at Dragonfly and get their craft on. Bring your crochet or knitting, coloring books, journals, models, and more!

    Our only restriction: No glitter please!

  • Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion Open Hours

    Friday, September 11, 3:00-6:00pm; Saturday, September 12, Closed; Sunday, September 13, 12:00-5:00pm

    During Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion, Dragonfly Book Bar will adhere to different opening hours than normal as several members of our staff work, volunteer, or perform at the festival!

    Be sure to stop by during our open hours for a bit of respite and to find your next great (music!) read!

  • Dragonfly Book Club: The Sound of a Wild Snail Eating

    Monday, September 14, 5:30pm

    Join us on Monday, September 14, 5:30pm for our monthly book club meeting. We’ll be discussing The Sound of a Wild Snail Eating by Elisabeth Tova Bailey. Dragonfly Book Club is free and open to the public, and you can purchase the book at a 10% discount as a book club attendee! You can join the Facebook group via the link below.

    Please note that Dragonfly is closed on Mondays, but we are open to book club and the doors will be open at 5:15pm.

  • Writers' Gathering

    Saturday, September 19, 3:00-5:00pm

    Every third Saturday of the month we invite writers of all types - from published and aspiring authors to poets to journalers, and more - to hang out at Dragonfly with like-minded folks. This is a great space to share your creativity with others, network with other writers, get feedback on your work, and get inspired. Each gathering begins with a 10-15 minute writing prompt exercise, but then the rest of the time is guided by the participants. Join us and get writing!

  • Memoir Workshop with Carolyn Koesters

    Sunday, September 20, 3:00-4:30pm

    Ever wanted to write down some of your favorite stories — i.e. your own? Are you interested in discovering your inner memoirist?

    Then join us on Sunday, September 20, 3:00-4:30pm because it's easier than you think! In this Memoir Workshop, you'll have prompts and time to complete several exercises to get started capturing the stories you want to tell others — and keep writing about your own life in small, bite-sized chunks.

  • Author Talk & Signing: Sharyn McCrumb

    Friday, September 25, 5:00-6:45pm

    Join us on Friday, September 25, 5:00-6:45pm for an evening with author Sharyn McCrumb! She will do a reading, talk about her books, and sign copies.

    Sharyn McCrumb is an award-winning Southern writer, best known for her Appalachian "Ballad" novels, set in the North Carolina/Tennessee mountains, including the New York Times Best Sellers The Ballad of Tom Dooley, She Walks These Hills and The Rosewood Casket.

    Sharyn's other best-selling novels include The Ballad of Frankie Silver, the story of the first woman hanged for murder in the state of North Carolina, andGhost Riders, an account of the Civil War in the mountains of western North Carolina.

    Dragonfly will have several of Sharyn’s books on hand for sale and signing.

  • Games & Puzzles Night

    Every fourth Friday, we invite fellow puzzlers and board/card gamers to hang out with us throughout the evening. You can bring your own puzzles and games, or borrow some of ours!
